Isabel Allende

(Lima, 1942) Chilean writer. The daughter of a Chilean diplomatwho instilled his love for literature, Isabel Allende he studied journalism. As he started on writing plays and stories for children, worked as an editor and columnist in newspapers and television.

In 1960 Isabel Allende joined the Chilean section of the FAO, the United Nations organization that deals with improving the standard of living of the population through a comprehen sive harnessing the potential of each area. In 1962 she married Miguel Frias, which would divorce in 1987 after having had two children: Paula, who died, a victim of porphyria, in 1992 - and Nicolas. In 1973, following the Chilean military coup led by General Pinochet, which killed his uncle, President Salvador Allende, he left his country and settled in Caracas, where he began his literary production.
